Disney Cruise Day 5: The Pool Day

Mother Nature told Poseidon to suck it today. The conditions were perfect.  It was 72 degrees with just a light breeze. There were just a few clouds in the sky that looked like little floating cotton balls. They were so perfectly placed, Ella said it looked like they were painted on the sky. And the sea was so calm that there was not a single white cap as far as the eye could see.

These were perfect conditions for a pool day, but, Audrey woke up with a temperature of 101.  Running a fever is common for Audrey, but I was hoping we could avoid it on this trip.   Michelle was feeling sick as well, probably remnants from yesterday, so that meant an Ella and Daddy day. Time to head to the pool.

Geography is vital when choosing a table on the pool deck. You want to get something in the shade if you are an old sissy like me. And you also want a view of both the movie screen and the horizon. In addition, you want to grab a table close to the free ice cream machine. All of this can be yours, but you have to get there early. Ella and I hit the pool deck straight from the breakfast buffet.

The boat has a giant movie screen next to the kids’ pool so kids can splash around while watching a Disney movie.  Our timing was perfect as Moana was beginning right when we got there. Then, Disney opted for the oddest double-feature by following Moana with Frozen 2. Ella watched both movies while I took this opportunity to enjoy the weather, write my blog, and attempt to drink my weight in $12 drafts of Blue Moon.

Ella also reminded me that because of the full schedule of Dolphin Day, we missed our goal of eating free ice cream every day of the cruise, and that we needed to make up for that today.  I knew she would bring this up because all she talked about for a month before the cruise was the free ice cream. That is why I grabbed a table about 30 feet from the ice cream machine. We achieved our goal of averaging one ice cream cone per day on the trip, even after falling behind due to the Cozumel day. And it’s safe to say we got a head start on averaging an ice cream cone per day for next year’s cruise. Not a bad way to spend our last day on the boat.

Until next year, Mickey Boat.
